Tokens for Bags® Spotlight

Buffalo Exchange Tokens for Bags program

Over the course of six months we have been supporting local charities through our Tokens for Bags® program. We encourage shoppers to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases and we donate five cents (the cost of the bag) to a charity of the customer’s choice. Since 1994, we have raised nearly $629,300 for thousands of local nonprofit organizations through our Tokens for Bags® program, saving 12.5 million bags from polluting the environment.

This month we’re spotlighting some of the charities you can support through the end of December.

Support Oakland Public Education Fund at Buffalo Exchange Berkeley:

The Ed Fund’s mission is “to lead the development and investment of community resources in Oakland public schools so that all students can learn, grow, and thrive.”

They have raised more than $25 million for essential programs since 2003, as well as partnered with more than 40 schools to support their communications, operations, and resource development.

Currently they are helping Bridges Academy K-5 collect jackets, pants, and other clothing and supplies for 50 refugee students from Guatemala. You can learn more here.

Support Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans at Buffalo Exchange Minneapolis:

Their mission is “to provide assistance throughout Minnesota to positively motivated veterans and their families who are homeless or experiencing other life crises. MACV accomplishes its mission by providing services directly or in collaboration with other service agencies.”

MACV provides direct housing, employment and legal services for homeless and veterans in crisis, and has served over 1,800 veterans last year alone.

Aside from cash donations they also accept supplies, clothing, food, and other forms of help. Support Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) at Buffalo Exchange Brooklyn:

While Catskill Animal Sanctuary rescues farmed animals, they also work to ignite social change to end the exploitation of these animals and champion vegan living.

CAS has rescued 3,500 animals since its first resident in 2001. Aside from rescuing animals, CAS also finds loving homes for many of their animals.
