Buffalo Exchange How to Layer Cold Weather

Cold-Weather Style: How to Layer

By Buffalo Exchange San Diego (Hillcrest) and Buffalo Exchange Boston (Somerville)

If you’ve ever felt like a complete marshmallow-shaped goober after bundling up for the snow, then you know staying stylish in the cold weather isn’t always easy. Luckily, it’s layering to the rescue! Layering gives you maximum flexibility, ensuring you stay warm when you need to without overheating when you finally make it inside. Plus, if you’ve ever had a morning where you just can’t decide which top you like better, now you don’t have to! When you layer, you can wear all your favorite pieces at once.

All About That Base

So, how to layer successfully? Start with a strong “base” item. This piece anchors your whole outfit and pulls all the disparate pieces together. Choose this item wisely – it will take center stage when you get inside and start shedding layers. Plus, you’ll probably wear it on its own come spring. Your base piece will help you determine the color palette for your entire outfit and figure out how many layers you can add without hulking out.

Buffalo Exchange outfits under $50

Winter Outfits Under $50!

By Mina Brewer, Buffalo Exchange

Here in Boston we are anticipating a cold, snowy winter like last year brought us. Many of our loyal shoppers, while very fashionable, also appreciate great functional items as well for this reason. We quickly sell out of staples like Patagonia jackets, L.L. Bean boots, and warm fur hats. Thanks to our location in Davis Square, we can also count on our eclectic, funky customers from Somerville and Cambridge to create unique and inspiring winter outfits.

Lately our college crowds have been sporting outfits with athletic elements (hello fleece-lined leggings!). We’ve seen great Adidas fashion, Hood by Air finds, and, of course, the ever-popular LuLulemon. The Season of the Witch continues into the colder weather with fringe shawls, incredible vintage shearling coats, and beautiful suede boots and accessories. Our customers love the 70s trend seen across the fashion sphere by scooping up all of our ribbed tees and sweaters, big floppy hats, and A-line miniskirts.

We did a fun shoot with our buyer, Mina (that’s me!). Check out our Buffalo Exchange selections below!

40th Tour: Somerville

Buffalo Exchange (4)A little piece of Tucson rode into Somerville, melting away the snow, and bringing bright sunshine to Davis Square. We filled the Airstream to the brim with western wear, vintage frocks, tooled leather bags, and fringe galore! It was so much fun to share this celebration with our customers and to see how infectious the excitement was. It gave us a chance to talk about the Buffalo Exchange culture and guilt-free fashion. Regulars and newcomers alike loved the party favors and the newly designed bolsa bags. Customers got a kick out of the Airstream trailer, remarking on the beautiful artwork done by Allyson Bennett. Overall it was a great day for both staff and customers, it gave us a chance to interact with the community as a whole, and spread the Buffalo love.
