The Times They Are A-Changin’: Winter-to-Spring Outfits to Wear Now

By Aarian Frye, Buffalo Exchange HQ; Photos from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne)

Oh, January. No matter where you are in the country, you’re probably kind of over the whole winter cyclone thing. Plus, after dressing up for most of December, it’s easy to fall into a post‐holiday fashion slump. Fortunately, we here at Buffalo Exchange have got your parka‐covered back! With help from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne), we’ve put together some cozy winter-to-spring outfits that you can start wearing now. As the weather warms up, simply peel off a layer or two!

Café – Oh, Late!

Buffalo Exchange, Headquarters, Portland (Hawthorne), Winter-to-Spring outfits, denim jacket and white boots

We can all agree that getting out of bed is especially difficult on overcast winter days. So, if you ever find yourself late to a coffee date with your BFF, throw on cropped black pants with an oversized sweatshirt (we suggest going sporty chic with a purposefully worn‐in team logo) and a denim jacket. Finish it off with a chunky circle scarf and a pair of mod white booties. When the temperatures begin to rise, this is one of those winter-to-spring outfits that you can easily modify by ditching the jacket and scarf and rolling up the varsity sweatshirt sleeves. Next thing you know, you’ll be too cool for school.

Buffalo Exchange San Francisco Mission Retail Management Career of Chris Hamrick

From Good Deed to a New Career in Retail Management: Meet Chris Hamrick

By Mary McMahon, Buffalo Exchange HQ

Next time you see a piece of trash on the ground, you might just want to pick it up – you never know where it might lead! For Chris Hamrick, this simple good deed jump-started his career in retail management with Buffalo Exchange. Back in 2003, he was trying on clothes at his local Buffalo when he noticed a piece of trash on the fitting room floor. His retail background had taught him to notice this type of thing, so he went ahead and picked it up. This rare, helpful gesture caught the attention of the manager and, next thing you know, Chris was getting hired as a brand new Buyer at our Haight Street location in San Francisco.

The Right Fit

Chris took to the job like a fish to water (or maybe a Buffalo to the plain?). He immediately found that he loved talking fashion with customers and meeting people from all different walks of life. He even started counting many of his regulars as friends. In particular, he remembers a customer who always came in to shop and chat but rarely walked away with anything. So Chris did what any good Buyer would do – he asked what the customer was looking for! When he found out the customer was shopping for streetwear gems, Chris helped his store to keep an eye out for these items. Even though Chris has a flair for vintage and is usually decked out in head-to-toe 70s, he loves fashion and found the process of learning about all different types of styles fascinating.

When You Love Your Job

Within a few years of starting at the Haight Street store, Chris’s hard work and passion for helping customers won him a promotion to Buyer Expert and, just a year later, Buyer Trainer. But it didn’t stop there! In 2015, Chris transferred to our San Francisco Mission District location and jumped head-first into his career in retail management – he was quickly promoted to Associate Manager, then Store Manager. Now celebrating 14 years in the herd, he is excited for the fun new challenge of being a Store Manager. There’s always work to be done, but he knows he can succeed in his new role by focusing on the things that matter most: great clothes and great customers!

For anyone out there like Chris who loves fashion and loves meeting new people, stop by your local Buffalo Exchange to fill out an application or apply online today! We’re always looking for friendly individuals to join our team. And hey, who knows? It might just be the start of your new career in fashion or retail management.

Buffalo Exchange San Francisco Festival

Festival Nation: Festival Style from Burning Man and Beyond

By Buffalo Exchange San Francisco (Haight St)

When you think festival fashion, you probably think high-waisted denim shorts, Western boots, flowy crochet blouses and large sunglasses. However, there are many different festivals, attracting a wide variety of demographics and fashion trends. From Burning Man to Coachella to Sasquatch, we explore festival fashion across the nation!

Classic Festival Style

Some of the more classic festivals include Coachella, Lollapalooza and, for those traveling abroad, Glastonbury. At these festivals, you expect to see celebrities making appearances in the latest summer trends. Unlike other festivals, Glastonbury is known for being muddy, so Wellington boots are a must!  Festivals in warmer, dryer climates lean towards a blend of Western and bohemian styles. Lacey tanks and crochet blouses are accented by fringey purses, embroidered vests, statement necklaces, bold sunglasses and hats.

EDM

In stark contrast are electronic, dance and performance-based festivals such as EDC, Ultra and Electric Zoo. To match the colorful, lively atmosphere, attendees sport bright colors, metallic, rainbow and neon, pairing tutus, sparkly bikini bottoms or artful shorts with imaginative body suits and hand-decorated bralettes. Colored wigs, decorative headpieces, leg warmers, fishnets, fanny packs and fuzzy vests accentuate these looks!

Buffalo Exchange How to Sell Your Clothes

How to Sell Your Clothes

By Jessica Pruitt, Buffalo Exchange HQ

Whether your closet is overflowing (literally) or you’re just looking to make a little extra cash, you may find yourself wondering how to sell your clothes. It all starts with cleaning out your closet. Find out the top tips for reorganizing your closet and reselling your clothes at Buffalo Exchange.

1) Clean out early, clean out often

Capsule wardrobe specialists and minimal lifestyle gurus recommend cleaning out every three months – once per every season change. If you’re overwhelmed just thinking about it, try every six months. When you clean out, sort into three categories: out-of-season items to be stored away in plastic tubs, worn-out items to be donated and items to sell.

Remember that most clothing resale stores start buying for the upcoming season a few months in advance. At Buffalo Exchange, for example, we start taking Fall inventory in July. We also buy current, high quality items in excellent condition out of season.  Moving to Hawaii (you lucky duck!) and wondering what to do with the brand new Patagonia jacket you’ll never wear? Bring it in!
