You can also save money by taking the in-store trade and putting it towards our fun and quirky stocking stuffers or a look for your next holiday party. Yes, that’s right – you just might be able to score a whole new outfit without spending a dime.

Plus, if you’re looking for a sustainable alternative to the mall this December, shopping and selling at Buffalo Exchange is a great way to go green. When you resell your clothes, you’re doing your part to reduce clothing pollution and waste. Every Buffalo Exchange sponsors local nonprofits through our Tokens for Bags® programs, meaning you get to help out the local community just by shopping. Now that’s some instant holiday spirit.

What We’re Buying

Buffalo Exchange is currently looking for adult-sized men’s and women’s cold-weather wares in excellent condition. Think sweaters, jackets, jeans, tees and button-ups, layering pieces, boots and warm hats – and don’t forget the festive holiday sweaters! We buy the best of all seasons, all year long, so if you have a current, high quality summer piece in excellent condition, throw that in the bag too.

If you’re not sure what to sell when you clean out your closet, keep in mind the golden rule: when in doubt, bring it in! We buy everything from fun and funky pieces and vintage to everyday staples. Our buyers will be happy to take a look at everything you have and walk you through the process.

How to Sell

When you come in, a buyer will look through all of your items and make selections based on style, condition and store needs. If they think any of your items will sell in the store, they’ll assign them a retail price. From that price, you’ll receive 50% in store trade or 30% in cash the same day you sell.

Buffalo Exchange How to Sell Your Clothes 3 Flat Lays of Men's and Women's Clothing

How to Sell Your Clothes

By Jessica Pruitt, Buffalo Exchange HQ

Whether your closet is overflowing (literally) or you’re just looking to make a little extra cash, you may find yourself wondering how to sell your clothes. It all starts with cleaning out your closet. Find out the top tips for reorganizing your closet and reselling your clothes at Buffalo Exchange.

1) Clean out early, clean out often

Capsule wardrobe specialists and minimal lifestyle gurus recommend cleaning out every three months – once per every season change. If you’re overwhelmed just thinking about it, try every six months. When you clean out, sort into three categories: out-of-season items to be stored away in plastic tubs, worn-out items to be donated and items to sell.

Remember that most clothing resale stores start buying for the upcoming season a few months in advance. At Buffalo Exchange, for example, we start taking Fall inventory in July. We also buy current, high quality items in excellent condition out of season.  Moving to Hawaii (you lucky duck!) and wondering what to do with the brand new Patagonia jacket you’ll never wear? Bring it in!

Buffalo Exchange How to Layer Cold Weather

Cold-Weather Style: How to Layer

By Buffalo Exchange San Diego (Hillcrest) and Buffalo Exchange Boston (Somerville)

If you’ve ever felt like a complete marshmallow-shaped goober after bundling up for the snow, then you know staying stylish in the cold weather isn’t always easy. Luckily, it’s layering to the rescue! Layering gives you maximum flexibility, ensuring you stay warm when you need to without overheating when you finally make it inside. Plus, if you’ve ever had a morning where you just can’t decide which top you like better, now you don’t have to! When you layer, you can wear all your favorite pieces at once.

All About That Base

So, how to layer successfully? Start with a strong “base” item. This piece anchors your whole outfit and pulls all the disparate pieces together. Choose this item wisely – it will take center stage when you get inside and start shedding layers. Plus, you’ll probably wear it on its own come spring. Your base piece will help you determine the color palette for your entire outfit and figure out how many layers you can add without hulking out.
