By Aarian Frye, Buffalo Exchange HQ; Photos from Buffalo Exchange Ventura.

After the holidays, when all the champagne is gone and all the sparklers are burnt out, it’s not unusual to find your closet stuffed to the gills with fun pieces you bought and only wore to one – albeit spectacular! – party. If you’d like to give ‘em one more chance to make an appearance in your #OOTDs before you sell to your local Buffalo Exchange, read ahead to see how easy it can be to bring your NYE looks from night to day with a few key pieces.

Night-to-Day Incog-neato!

Buffalo Exchange, Headquarters, Ventura, NYE Looks, gray jacket, metallic dress, Opening Ceremony

A metallic dress befitting a starry night filled with fireworks can be brought back down to earth with a low-key trench jacket made from a comfortable jersey knit. Incorporate a chic translucent cross-body from the night before and slip-on trainers. Top it off with a dad hat to stylishly hide the bed head you may or may not (totally!) have.  Full Story

Meet Danyel Beck, Buyer and Personal Style Guru

By Buffalo Exchange Los Angeles (Santa Monica)

Having a job in fashion is a great way to explore new styles and refine your own personal tastes – especially when that job is at Buffalo Exchange, where new inspiration comes into the store daily! Buffalo Exchange Los Angeles (Santa Monica) employee Danyel loves bringing her streetwear-inspired personal style to work every day and constantly discovering new things about fashion. As she puts it, Buyers are “50% fashion encyclopedias, 50% curious.” Read on to find out more!

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to think of my style as street mixed with a touch of elegance. My go-to look is tomboy/chic, which basically means an oversized T-shirt or dress, jeans and sneakers (or heels if I’m going out on the weekend). Add a cute cross-body bag and, of course, BIG HAIR and I’m all set!

The Times They Are A-Changin’: Winter-to-Spring Outfits to Wear Now

By Aarian Frye, Buffalo Exchange HQ; Photos from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne)

Oh, January. No matter where you are in the country, you’re probably kind of over the whole winter cyclone thing. Plus, after dressing up for most of December, it’s easy to fall into a post‐holiday fashion slump. Fortunately, we here at Buffalo Exchange have got your parka‐covered back! With help from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne), we’ve put together some cozy winter-to-spring outfits that you can start wearing now. As the weather warms up, simply peel off a layer or two!

Café – Oh, Late!

Buffalo Exchange, Headquarters, Portland (Hawthorne), Winter-to-Spring outfits, denim jacket and white boots

We can all agree that getting out of bed is especially difficult on overcast winter days. So, if you ever find yourself late to a coffee date with your BFF, throw on cropped black pants with an oversized sweatshirt (we suggest going sporty chic with a purposefully worn‐in team logo) and a denim jacket. Finish it off with a chunky circle scarf and a pair of mod white booties. When the temperatures begin to rise, this is one of those winter-to-spring outfits that you can easily modify by ditching the jacket and scarf and rolling up the varsity sweatshirt sleeves. Next thing you know, you’ll be too cool for school.

Buffalo Exchange Coats for Cubs 2018

Coats for Cubs: Give Your Furs Back to the Animals

Now announcing our 2018 Coats for Cubs drive! From January 2 to April 22, you can donate your real fur coats and trimmings at any Buffalo Exchange location. All collected furs will be sent to wildlife rehabilitators, where they are repurposed into bedding that nurtures recovering wild animals, providing more warmth and familiarity than options like towels and sheets. These furs help injured and orphaned wildlife by keeping baby animals warm and minimizing human contact during the recovery process.

“It really helps the animals to have something to snuggle into,” says Jody Raines of Illinois Valley Wildlife Rehab. “It appears to relax them and makes them easier to work with. Every baby heads right to the fur hiding place when I take them in.”

Since 2006, when Buffalo Exchange first became involved with Coats for Cubs, we have collected and distributed over 13,644 furs. Last year alone, we collected 1,390 furs to give back to the animals. Help us make it another record year! To learn more and see photos of some of the animals who have benefited from donated furs, visit CoatsforCubs.com.

Austin Nonprofits

Spotlight on Austin Nonprofits: TreeFolks

By Amelia Gotobed, Buffalo Exchange HQ

We all know that money doesn’t grow on trees. Instead, it takes an outpouring of community support to run Texas non-profit TreeFolks. Trees are essential to our environment, cleaning our air and water and providing habitat for wildlife. That’s why TreeFolks works so hard to plant trees in Texas. And that’s why Buffalo Exchange Austin is proud to sponsor TreeFolks as one of the three Austin nonprofits in our Tokens for Bags® program.

What is TreeFolks?

Austin Nonprofit TreeFolks

Established in 1989, TreeFolks has planted 1 million trees in the urban Austin area, cultivating better air quality and shelter from the hot Texas sun. TreeFolks engages thousands of volunteers to help plant trees in community areas like parks, preserves and schoolyards. TreeFolks also helps with reforestation efforts in the wake of natural disasters. This is one of the only Austin nonprofits that promotes comprehensive urban forestry.

Tree Teachings: Why TreeFolks is One of the Top Austin Nonprofits

TreeFolks also provides comprehensive, research-based tree education. These educational opportunities, which use the urban forest as a classroom, are available to the public all year round, free of charge. TreeFolks’ educational programs serve the diverse population of Central Texas, allowing them to connect with and learn about the trees that are to vital to our lives. From Tree Adventures, which involves bike rides and tree climbs, to Sapling Days, during which thousands of baby trees are planted, this Austin nonprofit’s programs include something for everyone.

To Be or Not to Be

Halloween Unique Costume Ideas

Still don’t know what to be this Halloween? Then take a page out of the old bard’s book and dress as Hamlet or any renaissance character.  Find a poofy sleeved shirt for men and be sure throw on those tights! Accessorize by carrying around a skull like we did at Buffalo Exchange Bellingham. Romeo and Juliet also makes a great – but tragic – couples costume.

The Coven

Buffalo Exchange Halloween

Channel your American Horror Story fandom into a simple – but effective – Coven look this Halloween. To create these looks at Buffalo Exchange New Orleans, we threw on as much black as possible – dresses, tights, hats and boots – and then posed in front of the genuine Coven house. It may not be quite as easy to find a sweet old mansion if you live outside of NOLA, but guaranteed you can put one of these monochromatic looks together in no time.

Here’s a look that is 100% Southwest – and super easy to transition from day to night! For day, Ben wears white Levi’s, a white Guess shirt and a bold vintage necklace. When the sun goes down, he puts on his suede vest before meeting up with his date to see some of the city’s coolest indie shows, where he’s often mistaken for part of the band. This just goes to show how easy it is to switch up your look with a single layer!
