The Times They Are A-Changin’: Winter-to-Spring Outfits to Wear Now

By Aarian Frye, Buffalo Exchange HQ; Photos from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne)

Oh, January. No matter where you are in the country, you’re probably kind of over the whole winter cyclone thing. Plus, after dressing up for most of December, it’s easy to fall into a post‐holiday fashion slump. Fortunately, we here at Buffalo Exchange have got your parka‐covered back! With help from Buffalo Exchange Portland (Hawthorne), we’ve put together some cozy winter-to-spring outfits that you can start wearing now. As the weather warms up, simply peel off a layer or two!

Café – Oh, Late!

Buffalo Exchange, Headquarters, Portland (Hawthorne), Winter-to-Spring outfits, denim jacket and white boots

We can all agree that getting out of bed is especially difficult on overcast winter days. So, if you ever find yourself late to a coffee date with your BFF, throw on cropped black pants with an oversized sweatshirt (we suggest going sporty chic with a purposefully worn‐in team logo) and a denim jacket. Finish it off with a chunky circle scarf and a pair of mod white booties. When the temperatures begin to rise, this is one of those winter-to-spring outfits that you can easily modify by ditching the jacket and scarf and rolling up the varsity sweatshirt sleeves. Next thing you know, you’ll be too cool for school.

Buffalo Exchange Coats for Cubs 2018

Coats for Cubs: Give Your Furs Back to the Animals

Now announcing our 2018 Coats for Cubs drive! From January 2 to April 22, you can donate your real fur coats and trimmings at any Buffalo Exchange location. All collected furs will be sent to wildlife rehabilitators, where they are repurposed into bedding that nurtures recovering wild animals, providing more warmth and familiarity than options like towels and sheets. These furs help injured and orphaned wildlife by keeping baby animals warm and minimizing human contact during the recovery process.

“It really helps the animals to have something to snuggle into,” says Jody Raines of Illinois Valley Wildlife Rehab. “It appears to relax them and makes them easier to work with. Every baby heads right to the fur hiding place when I take them in.”

Since 2006, when Buffalo Exchange first became involved with Coats for Cubs, we have collected and distributed over 13,644 furs. Last year alone, we collected 1,390 furs to give back to the animals. Help us make it another record year! To learn more and see photos of some of the animals who have benefited from donated furs, visit CoatsforCubs.com.

To Be or Not to Be

Halloween Unique Costume Ideas

Still don’t know what to be this Halloween? Then take a page out of the old bard’s book and dress as Hamlet or any renaissance character.  Find a poofy sleeved shirt for men and be sure throw on those tights! Accessorize by carrying around a skull like we did at Buffalo Exchange Bellingham. Romeo and Juliet also makes a great – but tragic – couples costume.

The Coven

Buffalo Exchange Halloween

Channel your American Horror Story fandom into a simple – but effective – Coven look this Halloween. To create these looks at Buffalo Exchange New Orleans, we threw on as much black as possible – dresses, tights, hats and boots – and then posed in front of the genuine Coven house. It may not be quite as easy to find a sweet old mansion if you live outside of NOLA, but guaranteed you can put one of these monochromatic looks together in no time.

Never Stop Learning: Growing Up With Buffalo Exchange

By Mary McMahon, Buffalo Exchange HQ

Marisa Russell remembers growing up and shopping at Buffalo Exchange Albuquerque with her aunt in the ‘90s, back when it was just a corner store. It wasn’t the type of clothes that she saw in malls and on TV, but she always wanted to come back. As she got older and moved into the dorms at University of New Mexico, she would stop by the store weekly to shop. She was tired of working mall jobs, so she turned in her application. “I don’t even know if they were hiring, I just knew I wanted to work there,” Marisa says. She saw Buffalo Exchange as an opportunity where she would never stop learning.

Never Stop Learning, Never Stop Teaching

Flash forward to today, 15 years later, and Marisa is a Buyer Trainer at Buffalo Exchange Albuquerque. She worked her way up, becoming a Buyer Expert in 2006 and a Buyer Trainer in 2009. She has a love of training and seeing how employees grow their buy knowledge, their own style and even how they grow as people throughout the years. She loves seeing new employees find what styles they love and learning from them, too.

More than a Vintage Store: Mixing Modern with Vintage

By Buffalo Exchange Albuquerque

Here at Buffalo Exchange, we take pride in being a vintage store in addition to reselling current trends and staples. In fact, we love mixing vintage with modern. Some people love pieces that hail from decades past but feel like they don’t know how to style them for every day. When you mix and match, vintage can actually add a timeless feel to your wardrobe.  Added bonus: you probably won’t see anyone else wearing the same thing!

Vintage Store Finds: The 40s

Buffalo Exchange Albuquerque Vintage 40sBuffalo Exchange Albuquerque Vintage Dress 40s

Finds from the 1940s are rare, so we were particularly proud to have these elegant pieces on our racks. To style them for 2017, we paired with modern footwear and plenty of fun accessories. Whether you have a movie premier on your calendar or a Friday night date, these looks are guaranteed to make you stand out from the crowd.

Vintage Store Finds: The 50s

We love this adorable sky blue 50s number! For this one, we decided to go full-on vintage with a fun hat and made it modern by adding one of the most popular colors of the year – pink.
