Packing for summer vacation can be a daunting task. You want to look your best for whatever activity comes your way. Sightseeing, fancy dinners, outdoor adventures, lying on a beach and indulging in new and delicious foods come to mind. It’s all too easy to go overboard and try to bring everything in your closet, ‘just in case.’ Luckily, you don’t have to bring your entire wardrobe on vacay in order to look amazing. With this summer packing list, you’ll find yourself looking fantastic with room in your luggage to spare!
Get Back to Basics
One of the simplest ways to eliminate bulk in your baggage is to bring staple pieces that all work together. When an item can be worn in a variety of ways, you save space and expand your options. For your bottoms, start with a great pair of denim, a cute skirt and the perfect summer short. Now, pull out some great tees that work with all your bottoms. Solid colors are easier to match, but throw in a pattern or two to add a little fun. Pick light-colored natural fabrics because they are easier to wear in hot climates and help protect you from the sun. Cotton-poly blends are best since they also don’t wrinkle in your suitcase.
Lessons in Accessorizing
Don’t forget to put light layers for cool nights or chilly air conditioning on your packing list. And be sure to bring some killer accessories to really change up your look from day to day – colorful scarves and statement necklaces add a big punch without taking up much space. Lastly, limit yourself to only a few pairs of shoes. Make sure they are comfortable and versatile. You’ll definitely want to have a pair of walking shoes for adventures, cute heels to glam it up and some easy sandals for strolls on the beach.
Packing it All In
Now that you have everything picked out and have double-checked you are bringing enough underwear, it’s time to get it all in your suitcase. Rolling your clothing is a great way to create more space in your bag and prevent wrinkling. Roll your jewelry up in a scarf or handkerchief to keep it safe and tangle-free. Wear your bulkiest pair of shoes (probably your sneakers) while travelling and pack your denim jacket (or whichever outer layer you choose) on the plane or in the car with you: it will save space and also be handy if you get cold. If you are headed to a destination wedding, consider buying a garment bag for items you want to protect and keep wrinkle-free.
