Not near a Buffalo Exchange? Try Sell By Mail! Buffalo Exchange now offers customers who don’t live near a store the opportunity to sell clothing by mail.

How does it work?
1. Request your bag here.
2. Once you receive your bag, fill it up with your closet cleanout.
3. Drop off your filled and sealed bag at your local UPS store. They’ll send it to us at no cost to you!
4. We’ll send you an email when we receive your bag and then again when we’re done processing it. If we’re able to buy any of your items,  you’ll have the choice between 25% of our selling price in a check or PayPal payout or 50% of our selling price in an In-Store Trade Card.

What to Send:

We buy men’s and women’s clothing and accessories in excellent condition. We’re always looking for the styles that will sell quickly in our stores – from current trends and popular mall brands to one-of-a-kind vintage items, everyday staples and inclusive sizing. We buy the best of all seasons,  year-round. Some of the brands our customers are always shopping for include Zara, Anthropologie, Loft, Nike, Nordstrom, Ralph Lauren and Urban Outfitters. This is just a sampling of the brands we love, so even if it’s not on the list, feel free to send it in! Through our Sell By Mail program, we do not accept discount department store brands like Walmart, Sears, Kmart, Kohl’s and JCPenney. We’re also unable to buy children’s clothing and accessories, fur, bridal wear, swimwear, intimates, counterfeits, sleepwear and home goods like sheets and towels.

How Long Does It All Take and How Does It Work?

This selling process from start to finish can take between 2-4 weeks, but it mainly depends on how soon you send back your filled bag. Once your bag arrives at our facility, you’ll receive an email noting its arrival. Within 3-5 days of arrival, each item in your bag will be checked over closely for condition and style. If we’re able to purchase any of your items, you’ll receive an offer of cash or in-store trade. Following your selection, your payment will be sent out within 3-5 days.

What Happens to the Items We’re Unable to Buy?

You can elect to donate your remaining items to our $1 Charity Yard Sale or have them returned to you for a $14.99 return shipping fee.

Many charities do not have a need for clothing (i.e. animals, environmental, some school programs, etc.) but could benefit greatly from a cash donation. Your unpurchased items are recycled into the community through regular $1 Charity Sales and the profits are donated directly to the local charity.

For customers who do live near a store, we encourage you to visit the store, where you can ask your Buyer any questions you have and receive cash or in-store trade on-the-spot! In store, you can also sell a larger quantity at once. Visit our locations page to find a Buffalo Exchange near you.

  1. How much does it cost to ship thebbags back to Buffalo? Is the cost subtracted from the cash/store credit value?

  2. I have a lot of women’s suits. Brand new. Do u accept those??? I also have lots of pants for suits and a big bag full of costume jewelery. Can I take them to sell??

  4. On average, how much do you give back for items purchased (I know the amounts vary depending on the item) or do you base the reimbursement on a percentage for everything?

    1. Hi Ruthie! We give 25% in cash or 50% in in-store trade of the selling price for each item. For example, if we buy an item and price it to sell at $10.00, you will receive $2.50 in a check or $5.00 in in-store trade. Best, Virginia — Content Coordinator

  5. I want to order a bag. Does BE charge me the U.S.shipping of the filled bag? If yes, how much? and Is the cost subtracted from the cash/store credit value? Thanks

    1. Hi Sheryl! Initial shipping is free. You only have to pay shipping costs if you’d like the clothes we don’t buy returned to you. Otherwise, we will donate them to a non-profit. – Jessica

      We do take items from PacSun and Zumiez, just depending on style and condition. We recommend standing with your buyer so you can ask them any questions you have while selling.



  6. Hi there!

    Do you buy off-season clothing? Also, does sell-by-mail send the package to the nearest Buffalo Exchange? For example, if I was closest to Chicago, would my items only go to the Chicago location or go to a central location for the clothes to get sorted?


    1. Hi Ariana!

      We always buy the best of all seasons. This means that we buy current, high-quality pieces in excellent condition out of season (think a brand new Patagonia down jacket in July). We may be more selective when it comes to condition and age out of season, but it’s always worth throwing in the bag to sell if you’re unsure.

      When you use our Sell by Mail program, the clothing is sorted at our headquarters in Tucson and distributed out to stores from here. So, there’s a chance that it might end up at the Chicago location, but not a huge one. Let me know if you have any further questions!

  7. I don’t have a buffalo exchange near me (the closest is 4 hours away) how do you typically price your items? Say, a ralph lauren button up in like new condition or a gently used calvin klein sweater, or a tommy hilfiger v neck?

    1. Hi Tanner!

      If you’re too far from a Buffalo Exchange, you can try our Sell by Mail program. Simply request a bag online at, fill it up and send it in! We can’t quote prices without seeing the items in person, but we pay out 50% of our selling price in trade or 25% in cash. You’ll have the option to choose and then we’ll mail you a trade card or a check. It’s free to ship your clothes to us. Afterward, you can opt to have us donate any clothes we can’t buy to a local non-profit or pay the the return shipping cost to have your clothing sent back to you.   8. Hey! I was wondering if when you received quick sale brands, like old navy, do you still donate them to your charity sale? And if you do, would it be okay to send those items, with items you’re willing to buy through the mail?

      Thanks for your interest in donating to our Charity $1 Sale! Unfortunately, due to shipping costs, we can’t accept fast fashion items from brands like Old Navy for donation through our Sell By Mail program.

      Thanks for reaching out to us! We buy those brands, but we buy based on the style and condition of the item more than anything else. We can’t say whether we’d take an item or quote a price without seeing it, so I recommend bringing in anything you want to sell to your local Buffalo Exchange or requesting a bag to Sell by Mail!
