At Buffalo Exchange, we believe in giving back to the community on a daily basis. So, instead of offering plastic bags, we hand out charity tokens with each purchase, giving shoppers the chance to donate 5 cents to one of three rotating local non-profits through our Tokens for Bags® program. Preserve the environment and help the community, all in one go? Yes, please! In our Columbus, Ohio store, shoppers have the chance to sponsor the Citizens for Humane Action (CHA) Animal Shelter.
This non-profit animal shelter will pull at your heartstrings! CHA provides shelter and care for homeless cats and dogs until they find their forever homes. Since being established in 1975, CHA has worked to reduce pet overpopulation by means of spaying and neutering as well as community outreach and education.
When the organization started out, it was just three friends in a basement, all committed to helping the stray animals in Columbus. When they outgrew those walls, they expanded to a farmhouse and hired a part-time staff and, in 2003, they finally opened the doors to their current location. The organization is still run by a small staff (and a large number of volunteers), but it never stops evolving to better help Columbus’s four-legged residents. It’s this dedication that has made CHA one of the most respected animal shelters in Ohio.
One thing that makes CHA different from other shelters is its “real rooms.” These rooms provide a homey environment for cats having a difficult time adjusting to living in cages while allowing potential adopters to see how they would act in a home environment, increasing the potential for adoption.
CHA also evaluates all its dogs for aggressive behavior issues through a program called Safer Testing, then spays or neuters and microchips all animals. The love and dedication CHA has for these animals is outstanding!
CHA gives Columbus cats and dogs a new chance to find a loving home while giving families a chance to find forever love! Visit the organization’s website to find out how to donate, volunteer or adopt. Then, stop by Buffalo Exchange Columbus to donate just by shopping!
