Break out the swimsuits and get that away message drafted, because summer is almost here! After a long winter and a very sneezy and breezy spring, the warm weather has arrived – bringing with it a new crop of trends to try out. Whether you’re working through the summer or planning a month-long vacay, we compiled the styles you’ll want to stock in your closet. Read ahead for our favorite trends of the summer!
Tie Dye Hard
There’s nothing more fitting to be featured on a list of summer fashion trends than camp-favorite tie dye! Reminiscent of days spent swatting mosquitos by a lake, tie-dye has transformed into a runway-certified staple. Plus, it’s an easy way to extend the life of your favorite T-shirt: DIY your tee with a swirl of rainbow dye to rock with your denim and sneakers. For an evening look, try a tie-dye cotton or silk dress as an alternative to the LWD (little white dress). Finish off the look with white d’orsay heels and delicate gold jewelry.
Pump Up The Volume: Statement Sleeves
It may seem counterintuitive to wear a sleeve in the summer, but hear us out: with off-the-shoulder bodices, breathable mesh and open, square necked shirring, these statement sleeves are made to keep you physically cool while also looking cool. As an extension of the sleeve, don’t overlook the cuff! Right now, the name of the game is the bigger, the better. Keep it simple with an oversized structured cuff or go all out with a billowing cloud of tulle!
Keep It Short: Cropped Overalls
Overalls have secured their place in the denim family as a suitable (and functional!) alternative to your favorite pair of jeans. Cropped overalls come in a variety of lengths, but we’re especially digging the mid-calf cut. Go monochrome with a white tee and canvas sneakers, artsy with a retro silk button-down or represent your favorite team in collectible overalls with an NBA t-shirt, fitted cap and colorful sneakers!
Psych 101: 60s-Inspired Dresses in Psychedelic Prints
Let the throwback summer fashion trends continue with vintage psychedelic prints! A cousin of tie-dye, 60s paisley brings back memories of coveting an oh-so-groovy lava lamp for your bedroom. While you may be hesitant to wear such a bright pattern, go ahead and give it a try in the form of a shift mini dress. Slide on your favorite pair of crisp white mules and secure your belt bag for an afternoon of jaunting about in the summer sun. If an outdoor music festival is in your summer forecast, upgrade to a wide-leg paisley jumpsuit and add a pair of the tallest platforms you can find. Finish this look with a pair of tinted sunglasses and hit the road!
The Bermuda Try-Angle: How to Wear Long Shorts
Who wears short shorts? Not us! This year, we’re trading in distressed high-cut shorts for longer, more relaxed styles. While there’s no exact length that makes a Bermuda short, the rule of thumb seems to be a hemline that stops at or goes beyond the tip of your fingers. You can be sweet with high-waist candy stripes, keep it casual with carpenter denim (+ wallet chain for full skater-boi effect!) or go for the gold with a fitted athletic cycle short. All of these styles pair beautifully with your favorite vintage graphic tee-shirt!
Fanning yourself from all these summer fashion trends? So are we! These looks will take you from the beach to the street or wherever else you travel this summer. Wondering where you can buy them on the road? Buffalo Exchange, of course! When you’re ready to say sayonara to last year’s summer wardrobe, bring your closet cleanout in to sell at your local Buffalo location. We buy all seasons year round, and you could use the trade you receive to pick up a new look!
