Buffalo is all about self-expression. So when our Charlotte location gets a chance to transform itself into a gallery, it’s as natural as a wardrobe change. Store Manager Kara Perry gives us the lowdown on turning her place of work into a work of art.

“The Charlotte, NC Buffalo Exchange is extremely lucky to be located in the Plaza Midwood area of the city, which is a hub for creatives and small local businesses. There are several music venues, bars, restaurants and retail shops that feature local artists’ work regularly and Buffalo Exchange wanted to be among that mix but in an even bigger way.”

“On a Sunday night in December of 2015, we held our first Art Show, which included young, up-and-coming, local artists eager to display their work for the community to see. All the artists were customers of Buffalo Exchange and focused their work around style, fashion, street photography and the community. The event turned out to be more successful than we had hoped! The community response was strong and more artists reached out to inquire about a second show. The event seemed to fill the gap between gallery art openings that felt too stuffy, venues that charged a cover and bars that are ‘21 and up’ only.”

“Since our first Art Show, we have hosted five others, featuring up to 16 artists at a time as well as a local DJ and henna artist. Each event gets bigger and better, generating more interest, involvement and hype. Our last Art Show of 2016 included two other local businesses, Armada Skate Shop and Paper Cut Gallery, which hosted local artists’ work as well. We plan to continue hosting the event every couple of months. It has become a staple in the community that people look forward to more and more.”

Buffalo Exchange Charlotte’s next art show is Sunday, February 19th. For more info, contact the store at (704) 372-2300 or, better yet, stop on in at 1521 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205!
