DIY: Vanilla Bean Vodka Infusion

By Ashley Brown, Buffalo Exchange Tucson

Vanilla Bean Vodka InfusionSo you’re heading to a party and you don’t want to arrive empty handed. You can always bring the customary bottle of wine or you can jazz it up by presenting the host with a personalized vodka infusion! I decided to make a vanilla bean infusion this round.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • – A glass bottle or jar with tight fitting lid (you can often find salvaged ones at thrift stores)
  • – Infusion of your choice (I’m using vanilla bean, but fruit, herbs, jalapenos, or even skittles will work)
  • – 750 ml of the highest quality vodka your budget will allow

To Make:

Slice a single vanilla bean lengthwise.  Combine the split bean & vodka in glass bottle. Seal tight & let sit for 5 to 7 days out of direct sunlight.  Be sure to shake the bottle a few times a day for the duration of the infusion.  Strain using a wire-mesh strainer or coffee filter. Pour infusion back into clean bottle.  If you’re giving this as a gift, don’t forget to tell the recipient to strain after one week.  Refrigerate for up to one month.

So whether you’re giving this as a gift or adding excitement to your home bar, infusions are a fun & simple way to experiment with many different flavors.  Bottoms up friends!

  1. That sounds so delicious, I’m making it today. I’ve had skittles infused vodka (yucky) and homemade limoncello (yummy), now it’s time to try vanilla. Thanks for the tip, Ashley!
