We all want to live eco-friendly and help make our little planet happy, but it can be easier said than done. When you’re tearing your hair out about how to sort your recycling or trying to take 3-minute showers, going green can seem impossible. Fortunately, living sustainably doesn’t have to be hard. With these easy-to-implement tips, you’ll be eco-friendly in no time flat – and even saving money while you’re at it!
Bring Your Own Bag
Whether you’re shopping for a new outfit or just groceries for the week, be sure to bring along a reusable bag. You’ll cut down on plastic bag pollution, plus you’ll be sure to catch the eye of that cute teller – after all, who doesn’t swipe right for eco-friendly? If you do end up with plastic or paper bags after purchases, repurpose them as garbage bags – you’ll save money AND give them a longer life! And hey, just between you and me, if you turn your paper bags inside out, they make cute (and way affordable) wrapping paper.
Before You Toss It, Reuse It!
Before you throw anything out, think about whether you can give it a second life. Plastic sandwich baggies can be rinsed out and reused and glass jars can become impromptu coffee mugs, salad jars or containers for foods from the bulk goods section. Just have the cashier weigh your jar before you fill it up with your favorite bulk goodies.
You can also make your recyclables into Pinterest-worthy craft projects like this adorable cat planter. Trust me – you’ll look like you’ve decorated your apartment exclusively from Etsy and Anthropologie without emptying your bank account. If you’re cleaning out your closet, there are easy ways to repurpose clothing you’re no longer wearing – sell it at a resale shop like Buffalo Exchange!
