Give your furs back to the animals! Now through Earth Day, bring your real and faux fur apparel, including fur trims, fur accessories (such as hats, gloves, and muffs), and shearling to your local Buffalo Exchange and let us know it’s a donation for The Humane Society. Please try to limit faux fur donations to smaller trim pieces. Since your donation is not being purchased by Buffalo Exchange, condition is unimportant. The furs are used as bedding to comfort orphaned and injured wildlife. Read The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) article, "Coats for Cubs Doubles the Return to the Animals." If you want to claim a tax deduction, please mail your fur directly to The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L Street NW, Washington, DC 20037. To spread the word about this program, print a PDF of The HSUS pamphlet, “Give Fur Back to the Animals.” Ask for Truth in Fur Labeling by emailing your congressperson today. This Act, H.R. 4904, just introduced on Mar 8, 2006, will close a loophole that allows many fur garments to be sold without identifying the species of animal or the country of origin if the value of the fur is less than $150. While dog and cat fur is illegal in the U.S., if fur is unlabeled, consumers are unsure what they are wearing.
